Born of the collaboration of doctoral students from Nice and Padua-Venice, the organization of an international seminar focusing on the documentary approach to medieval heresies seemed appropriate at a time when heresiology remains a dynamic field of historical research. The papers we are inviting you to propose will give rise to discussions on documents relating to medieval heresies in the Midi and Northern Italy.
Over several sessions between France and Italy, we propose to give the floor to both researchers and doctoral students, mixing completed research with that still in progress. The first two sessions will take place respectively at the Université Côte d'Azur in Nice on Friday March 14th and Saturday March 15h, 2025, then at the University of Padova on Thursday May 15th and Friday May 16th, 2025.
These two sessions will address the following topics:
Session 1:
Heresy, Literature and History
Session 2:
Heresy in Practical Documents (Registers, manuals, anti-heretical treatises, accounting and notarial documents, urban writings, etc.)
Other sessions may follow, transforming this seminar into a recurrent meeting of an international network of researchers. We invite participants to attend as many sessions as possible, to ensure continuity of discussion. We also hope that these sessions can be conducted exclusively face-to-face, to encourage exchanges. Accommodation costs may be covered for speakers at each session.
Communications will last 35-40 minutes and will be followed by 20-25 minutes of questions.
Information on the seminar, the organization of its sessions and its program will be regularly updated and available on this website.
